Classic solutions for HPC cluster management reach their limits when trying to integrate different CPU and accelerator architectures, container workflows, resource intensive interactive sessions, AI workloads, and (in the future) quantum computing capabilities. Additional requirements for multi-tenancy and virtualisation as well as infrastructure-as-code approaches are not supported by many infrastructure management tools. In this presentation we will discuss novel approaches and best practices to address these complex requirements, and which new aspects need to be considered to ensure reliability, flexibility, security, performance, long-term support and ease-of-use.
