Abstract: At the very least in the coming years, quantum computers are viewed mainly as a complementary computational resource, dedicated devices to supplement existing High Performance Computing (HPC) capabilities. For this reason, the deployment and integration of Quantum Processing Units (QPU) is well underway for various local and global players. The question is therefore what can we do with the current generation of QPUs, what gain, utility can come out from enriching an existing workflow with such devices.

For this reason, we propose a session to provide an overview on where current trends stand within the development of hybrid quantum-classical methods, that show a lot of promise in near term applications. The focus will be how said method(s) can be tailored and implemented for an efficient execution in an HPC environment. Various software tools and integration methods will be explored and illustrated through the example of Pasqal’s neutral atoms technology, focusing on a dedicated use case investigation from an actual industrial problem.
