Abstract: Digital Twins are accurate virtual replicas of real-world systems that combine sensor data with models to provide timely, beneficial information. Traditionally used in industry, the integration of high-performance computing (HPC), AI, and edge computing now allows digital twins to be applied in science and global policy. This includes areas like climate change, renewable energy, and healthcare, where real-time AI and uncertainty quantification can assist in life-saving decisions. Accurate simulations are becoming the primary source of virtual data, syncing with the real world across various scales, from subatomic to interstellar. The evolution from basic 3D models to near-identical digital twins is crucial for advancements in fields such as computational biomedicine, nuclear fusion, and factory automation. This workshop aims to bring together experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in making digital twins a standard practice in HPC and to identify key principles for their effective use.
